Youth Education Scheme (YES)

The JDF Credit Union YES account was designed to encourage saving in our children between the ages of 3 and 21 years. They will learn to develop a YEShealthy saving habit, good money management and the steps to a bright future.

Having a YES child account can benefit your child in many ways. Some of these benefits include:

  • A healthy start towards saving for the future
  • Developing a level of commitment and responsibility from an early age
  • An opportunity to benefit from the YES Scholarship fund and the YES Grant.
  • Interest earned on the savings.

YES Scholarship

This scholarship recognizes and awards the academic excellence of the Children of members of the JDF Credit Union.

The scholarship will be awarded into two categories namely Primary for students who were successful in their GSAT Examinations and Secondary for students who excelled in their CXC/GCE Examinations and will be moving on to 6th form or Tertiary Education.

Qualifications

Applicant(s) must have a YES account with a consistent monthly savings pattern of at least $300.00 monthly.

Applicant(s) must submit the most current school report with at least a B Average.

Applicant(s) for the secondary category must have attained in one sitting 5 CXC, grades 1-2 or 5 GCE O’Levels at or A-B.

Applicant(s) for the primary category must have attained at least 90% average in the GSAT Examinations.

Applicant(s) must submit letter of acceptance from the School or Institution of higher learning/education.

All applicants are to submit proof of age (birth certificate, or passport) along with application form and a valid picture ID or certified photographs.

YES Grant

This is a fund which has been established to assist children of deceased or incapacitated members of the Credit Union who are holders of a YES account. The child/children must be undertaking primary or secondary education. An amount of $10,000.00 per child per annum is awarded.

Qualifications

Obtain the recommendation of the Commanding Officer/Personnel Officer (Civilians) of the unit to which the member previously worked.

Submit a completed application form along with the letter of recommendation to the Credit Union.

Students are required to maintain a B+ or 65% average for the second year of the award.
